With Wharton releasing its MBA applications essays, the 2010-2011 admissions season is officially underway. In recent years, Harvard Business School has led the way, launching earlier and earlier in the year – in the last two years, staring in May. This year, Wharton has started things off and we imagine that many others will follow suit shortly. Why? From an admissions officer’s perspective, there is a slight advantage in getting essay questions out early. Once a candidate starts working on an essay, he/she is invested in their process and is thus more likely to complete an application. Of course, the application process can be so gruelling, so they are also more likely to become exhausted and give up on others.
