B-School Chart of the Week: March 2013 Social Currency Ranking

Rankings come in all shapes and sizes, but can any ranking truly capture social cachet? For a different perspective on the value of an MBA, we turn to the New York Times society pages, where the editors select and profile promising couples. Each month, we dedicate one B-School Chart of the Week to tallying how alumni from top-ranked business schools are advancing their social currency ranking.

Out of approximately 83 wedding announcements this month, 13 brides and grooms were mentioned who either held or were working toward MBA degrees—pushing the aggregate total for the year thus far up to 34/163. Harvard Business School (HBS) MBAs seemed to fare particularly well, with five separate mentions this month. Included among them were a pair of double-HBS weddings: that of alumni Ruchira Saha and Raghav Chopra, and that of Cristina Ros and Alexander Blankfein (son of Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein), who are both HBS students. But not everyone kept things in the HBS family; March also marked a noteworthy HBS-Chicago Booth union with the marriage of Amy Jain, co-founder of online jewelry retailer BaudleBar.com, and Pratik Patel, a principal at Spring Hill Capital Partners.
