When you select an MBA program, you are not just choosing your learning environment, but are also making a commitment to a community. Each Thursday, we offer a window into life “beyond the MBA classroom” at a top business school.
Its name a nod to the famous Tour de France, the Tour de Strand is an annual bike trip from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach along the Strand, which is a 22-mile, paved bicycle path that runs (mostly) along the Pacific Ocean. Described to mbaMission by several people we interviewed as a true UCLA Anderson School of Management tradition, this event typically includes 50–75 participants, some of whom make the trip on rollerblades. A recent Anderson alumnus said that some alumni who remain in the Los Angeles area join in the tour as well. Friends and supporters of the bikers follow the tour, stopping for drinks at bars along the route.
