Beyond the MBA Classroom: Dartmouth Tuck Admitted Students Weekend

When you select an MBA program, you are not just choosing your learning environment, but are also committing to becoming part of a community. Each Thursday, we offer a window into life “beyond the MBA classroom” at a top business school.

Admitted Students Weekend (ASW) is a student-led event held in the spring for candidates who have been admitted to the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. The goal of the weekend is to show the prospective students everything that Tuck has to offer as they make their final decision about which business school to attend. The 2011 event’s co-chair described the weekend to mbaMission as a “two-day trial” of Tuck, saying, “They get housing with current Tuck students, attend mock classes, Tuck ’tails, meet faculty, are hosted at a small group dinner and meet current students and other accepted ones. They see that second-year students—who won’t even be there when they arrive next fall—care enough to come, and they start to get to know the current first years, who will be their big brothers and sisters and support [them] when [they] cry over an exam (although you never should because it is not worth it). It is a great bridge from being an accepted student to being a Tuckie.”

A recent graduate we interviewed noted that her favorite part of ASW was the international lunch, during which students and partners cook foods from their home country and share them with the rest of the Tuck community. As described on Tuck’s admissions blog, multiple receptions and events are also planned for these prospective students and their families, including upper valley treks, class simulations, dinner parties, a Vegas Night and a dance party to wrap up the weekend.
