Diamonds in the Rough: Cornell Johnson’s New MBA Program at NYC Tech Campus

MBA applicants can get carried away with rankings. In this series, we profile amazing programs at business schools that are typically ranked outside the top 15.

With the launch of a full-time, one-year MBA program based in New York City (NYC), Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management is strengthening its appeal to applicants with backgrounds in engineering, math and computer science. The new program will begin in the spring at Johnson’s Ithaca campus, where students will take fundamental courses in preparation for a more immersive experience to follow at the NYC campus on Roosevelt Island in the fall.

Beyond giving students the benefit of the ample opportunities the city has to offer in the way of entrepreneurship, technology and innovation, the new campus will both borrow professors from Johnson’s Ithaca campus and hire new faculty. Until the campus construction is finished (the projected completion date is set for 2017), the program will begin operations at a donated space in Google’s Chelsea offices starting May 2014.
