New York University’s Stern School of Business named Peter Blair Henry, currently a professor at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, as its new Dean. Henry — a renowned economist, Rhodes scholar and leader of the Obama Transition Team’s review of the International Monetary Fund — should fit right in at NYU, a school known for its academic strengths in economics and finance. Current dean, Thomas Cooley, announced his resignation in December, stating that he wanted to return to the classroom and focus on his research. Henry will commence his term in mid-January 2010 and will inherit a school that has significant momentum due to its overhaul of its physical space and the rise in prominence of its scholars, particularly Nouriel Roubini (aka Doctor Doom) during the economic downturn.
