The Wharton School has announced that for the 2012-2013 admissions cycle, it will add a new team-based discussion component to the admissions process. The program, which was piloted during the 2012 Round 3 interview process, was clearly considered successful, and it will be launched as a mandatory part of the process this season. According to Vice Dean of Innovation Karl Ulrich, the team-based interviews “allow candidates the opportunity to interact with fellow applicants through discourse involving real-world business scenarios, which will highlight how they approach and analyze specific situations.” Further, the discussions give Wharton admissions directors a first-hand look at how prospective students would contribute to a community in which group learning is central.
